About this deal

The Philips OLED807 certainly has a lot of competition this year - but we’d say it has more than enough unique qualities to stand out from the crowd. The speakers are sensitive enough to bring forth lots of the detail that a good film mix might contain without anything sounding too shrill or harsh, and perhaps best of all, the bass drivers manage to churn out depths and volumes of bass most TVs can only dream about. There isn’t as much nimbleness and definition to this bass as you might get with a good soundbar or external subwoofer, but that’s hardly surprising. What is surprising is how the 55OLED907 manages to push out as much bass pressure as it does – particularly if you haven’t got the screen pushed right up to your wall – without succumbing to distortions, drop outs or cabinet ‘buzzing’. It's also worth noting that the new OLED807 is one of the first TVs to support DTS Play-FiHome Theatre. The tech allows you to integrate your TV into a Play-Fi wireless surround speaker system, and use your TV's built-in speakers as a dedicated centre channel. Pretty clever. Philips 2022 TV range breakdown It’s well-populated with content these days, too, with the likes of Apple TV Plus, Disney Plus, Prime Video, and Netflix all present and correct. It’s still missing the catch-up services for one or two of the UK’s main terrestrial broadcasters, but Philips has covered that by also equipping the OLED807 with the Freeview Play app, which brings all the UK’s catch-up apps together into one easy overall interface.

Nothing beats the big screen thrill of IMAX and now, thanks to IMAX enhanced, you can enjoy the power of IMAX on your TV, too. Used with IMAX certified 4K HDR content, IMAX Enhanced uses their proprietary digital remastering technology (DMR) to deliver ultra-vivid images.

The Philips 55OLED807 is one of the first TVs to be compatible with the innovative DTS Play-Fi Home Theatre system. When using the DTS Play-Fi app, this lets you integrate the TV into a home cinema speaker system, using the TV as the centre channel. Wireless surround sound doesn’t get much easier or more flexible than this. Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases.

Philips provides options in its huge onscreen menu system to tweak or turn on/off a vast range of picture processing elements. For the most part we welcome this, as it gives you lots of control over a welter of processing features that aren’t always as helpful as they think they are in their default settings. Be warned, though, that Philips’ setting generosity does create an intimidatingly extensive onscreen menu environment. Freeview HD HEVC (DVB-T2), Freeview HD TV (DVB-T2), Freeview TV (DVB-T), DVB-C, Freesat HD TV (DVB-S2), Freesat TV (DVB-S) The rest of the colour palette is lifelike and convincing – and, to be absolutely blunt, much better judged and much less aggressive than we’ve become used to from Philips. There’s still intensity of tone when needs be, of course, but when it’s describing skin-tones (in particular) the 55OLED807 is more lifelike and convincing than the model it replaces. And this is true even if you’re using one of the more, um, vivid picture presets. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.)

The Philips OLED807 is a cracking TV that stands out from the 4K OLED crowd thanks to its use of Ambilight technology

This wouldn’t matter, of course, if you could just switch between picture presets and leave your involvement with the TV’s menus at that. As we’ve seen, though, consistently getting the best from the OLED807 means familiarising yourself with at least some parts of its picture adjustment menus. Given the talent Philips has shown in the past for getting extra vibrancy and punch out of older OLED panels, the prospect of what it might be able to do with the OLED807s' EX panel is mouthwatering. Especially as the other big new feature Philips has introduced with the 55OLED807 is a new (sixth) generation of its P5 picture processing engine. Throughout, build quality is unarguable. Given the asking price, it’s no surprise to find a lot of plastic used in the 807’s construction, and in places it’s quite hard, ordinary-feeling plastic too. But everything is screwed together properly, nothing groans or creaks, and the way the stand has been chromed is flawless. For the money, it’s hard to know what else you can realistically expect. Features Gaming is supported by two HDMI 2.1 ports (in addition to two HDMI 2.0 ports), with support for 4K 120Hz and Variable Refresh Rate, plus Auto Low Latency Mode so it switches to its Game Mode when you fire up a console. The glamorous TV is accompanied by an equally glamorous remote control. This features a silvery metallic front and a lovely Muirhead leather rear, and its large but well-balanced shape makes it a joy to hold. The button layout isn’t particularly helpful/logical, though, aside from the appearance of a quartet of direct streaming app access buttons near the top. Features
